Our gallant România U19 team, bless their spirited souls, made their exit from EURO 2025. The folks back home were holding onto their țuică glasses a little tighter when the scoreboard flashed 1-3 in favor of the Dutch young'uns. But do you think the tale ends in tears? Not if Ion Marin has a say!

When the final whistle echoed over the field, our beloved coach, Ion Marin, wasn’t just offering a wreath of roses. Oh no, he brought a bouquet mixed with a hearty dash of nettles, too. "Am luat penibil primul gol," he bemoaned, lamenting that first embarazingly soft Dutch strike like he'd just seen a chicken cross the road and forget how to cluck. "Eh, se mai întâmplă și la case mai mari," he shrugged, perhaps dreaming of better days when the ball respects our tricolor flag and not the orange invasion.

As our young athletes licked their wounds, Marin didn’t forget to toss some sugar in this cup of bittersweet lemonade. He graciously thanked them for their effort and hoped they'd keep kicking as if they were chasing after the last hen in the village. A bit of a bumpy field, but who can resist the drama that is European football?

And with the evening sun setting over Giulești, we can only guess what’s next. Will Marin's team rise like bread dough on a Sunday? Or will the Dutch treat stick longer than planned? Only time (and maybe next season) will tell... but you didn’t hear it from me.
